Trogir

Trogir is a central Dalmatian city on the border of north and central Dalmatia, only 25 kilometers west of Split. The old town of Trogir is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

Trogir is a small central Dalmatian city on the border of north and central Dalmatia, only 25 kilometers west of Split. It is situated on a small island between the Croatian mainland and the island of Čiovo.

Trogir's history is long and interesting, dating back to Greek colonists and merchants of Issei (Vis Island). According to city documents, the first pharmacy in Europe opened in the 13th century next door to the cathedral and the town loggia. The city is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

The most significant cultural monument is the Cathedral of Trogir and the Portal made by Master Radovan, who was a Dalmatian sculptor and architect from the 13th century.

Trogir's Cathedral of St. Lawrence (of St. John of Trogir) is the main location among the Trogir churches.

It is a valuable Romanesque and Baroque monument added to the UNESCO World Heritage site with precious works of art.

Things to enjoy while in Trogir:

  • Climb the tower of Cathedral of St. Lovro and see a panoramic view of the roofs of the city.
  • Immerse yourself in a city tour. It will mesmerize you with its old medieval charm and slippery white stone. Note that Trogir gets very crowded in the summer!
  • Visit the museums, galleries, and shops of the old center.
  • Buy some local crafts and arts from local artists.
  • Taste the best ice cream along the central coast in a place called Bella (on the north side of the old city).
  • Try some street food in the area of old Pazar.
  • Have dinner at one of the many local restaurants.
  • Stroll down main Riva or have a drink in a bar, watching the luxurious yachts sail by.
